Oh joy. Every year I tell myself that I'm going to have it together, I'm going to be organized and have a schedule and stick to it. Every year I fail.
I run a business and homeschool at the same time. The past few years I've spent a month getting assignments in order and mapped out, things lined up and everything ready in hopes that I can give enough time to each of the kids and my clients, not to mention my husband and even myself.
Not this year!
This year I'm throwing it all out the window. Okay, so I did make a few copies ahead of time. I have a few little goals of where I want the kids to be in each book by the end of May, but aside from that I have nothing. I have no "we will do this many subjects per day", we will do x on Monday and y on Tuesday. Nothing.
My oldest is still homeschooling and doing college. We went over what she needed to complete a few months ago. I handed her the books she needed and told her she needed to develop a schedule to get it done! Sadly, there's still 2 subjects I need to pull together since I decided to give up on being prepared.
The ninth grader got almost the same thing! I am hoping he won't be struggling with the new expectations, but you know, maybe he'll figure it out. Maybe the freedom to figure out how own pace is just what he needs. We'll see how it goes, he hit the ground running this week, I hope the pace remains for a few more weeks.
The little ones, no clue. We have a stack of books and we are winging it. Don't want to do History today? No problem, maybe tomorrow. The elementary years are all about learning anyway, right?
Maybe it's having one in college now, I don't know, but I feel a lot less stress this year. Even with NCAA requirements hanging over me, I just feel like it's going to be a great year. I've got this. We can do this.
How is your new school year going?
