The program begins on November 1st for all stores. For each bag you bring in and use, you get 5-cents. The program was tested in 100 stores and resulted in a reduction of 58% of plastic bags used. That's a lot of bags not ending up in the landfill!
Of lesser excitement is CVS's new reusable incentive. Customers will be required to purchase a 99-cent tag to be scanned with their rewards card. Customers will get $1 cash bonuses on their CVS cards every four times they buy something but don't request plastic bags. I guess it's comparable to buying a 99-cent reusable bag, but the whole scan a tag card, wait 4 purchases for a reward just isn't as exciting.
